TACITROOTS - THE ACCADEMIA DEL CIMENTO IN FLORENCE: TRACING THE ROOTS OF THE EUROPEAN SCIENTIFIC ENTERPRISE ((ERC-COG-2019)

TACITROOTS examines the Accademia del Cimento, the first European scientific society to institutionalise experimentation under public authority. By integrating traditional historical scholarship with computational methods for the analysis of documents, experiments and correspondence networks, TACITROOTS reconstructs the Academy’s scientific practices, its material culture, and its intellectual connections across Europe. The project offers new insights into the formation of early scientific institutions and the development of shared scientific norms and vocabularies.
